Julius Muhindi is a medical doctor from Tanzania whose work lies at the intersection of global health, health diplomacy, and international cooperation. He currently serves as Advocacy Officer at Health Promotion Tanzania and is a member of the European Union Youth Sounding Board to Tanzania. For more than five years, Julius has championed tuberculosis advocacy, driven by the belief that the most powerful voices in global health are those shaped not only by professional expertise, but also by lived experience.
Julius's commitment to ending tuberculosis is deeply personal. In 2015, while still a high school student with dreams of becoming a doctor, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. The illness interrupted his studies and exposed him to a period of uncertainty, fear, and the realities faced by millions of people affected by TB every year. Access to quality TB diagnosis and treatment, supported through Global Fund investments in Tanzania, gave him the opportunity not only to recover, but also to continue his studies and eventually fulfil his dream of becoming a medical doctor.
That experience transformed his understanding of what investments in global health truly mean. Beyond improving morbidity and mortality, they restore dignity, protect opportunities, and give people a second chance to pursue their aspirations. It was this realization that inspired Julius to dedicate his career to advocating for stronger TB responses, mobilizing communities, amplifying the voices of people affected by the disease, and calling for increased domestic investment alongside sustained international financing through the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
As a GFAN Speaker, Julius hopes to amplify stories that are too often unheard, demonstrating how strategic investments by the Global Fund translate into healthier communities, stronger health systems, and transformed lives.
