Key messages from the How to Close a Funding Gap report:
- There is little time left to meet the 2030 targets; we are not on track, but we are not too late.
- The Global Fund is a crucial tool for impact and a major contributor to the fight against HIV, TB and Malaria. It must be able to do its share to meet the target and end the epidemics.
- In HIV we have seen heroic progress over the last 20 years, and though the last miles will be hardest, victory is within reach.
- In TB progress has been slower, but new tools and politics have given rise to new ambitions, which need funding.
- In Malaria impact and funding has been stagnating for a decade and we urgently need a change of pace.
- Advocates need to be clear that a flatline in contribution to the Global Fund would result in major cuts in essential programs, as there has been a lot of inflation since 2022. Anything less than US$17.1 billion would mean cuts.
- Meeting the 2022 targets, accounting for inflation, would require US$21.2 billion. It would allow for a change of pace and headways in implementing the new strategy.
- The Global Fund’s fair share of the estimated need across the three diseases would require US$28.1 billion.

Flatline Means Cuts:
During the #7thReplenishment we missed the target. Now @GlobalFund programs have had to cut down critical interventions. For the #8thReplenishment, more of the same would mean further cuts. And remember: #FundingGapsKill.
US$17.1 billion is the Bare Minimum for the 8th Replenishment:
To maintain effort, the @GlobalFund will need at minimum to make up for #inflation since the #7thReplenishment. Anything less, and programs will be cut, and the funding gap grow. And remember: #FundingGapsKill.
US$21.2 billion Would Maintain Ambition:
